LDYE Preparatory Orchestra
Small but Mighty
The LDYE Preparatory Orchestra, under the diligent guidance of Debrah Devine, teaches students the skills needed to play in a group. With an atmosphere that balances fund and rigor, the prep orchestra is an ensemble in its own right. The repertoire is carefully selected to encourage growth in all prep members’ musicianship without being overwhelming.
All levels of string instrument player are welcome. An audition determines if each individual will benefit more from joining the Preparatory Orchestra or the Principal Ensemble.
The prep orchestra performs at every LDYE concert, participates in workshops, and has an annual prep only trip to learn about music in a more interdisciplinary context. Recent years have seen trips to a planetarium and to a science lab to understand the physics of sound.
